COPRI has blocked a small number of overnight sleeping rooms at a special group rate for your convenience.  Rooms in the block are available for Saturday, May 16, 2026 - Friday, May 22, 2026, at varying rate structures.

Travel

The area hotels do not offer an airport shuttle.  

Located about an hour south of Houston and connected to the mainland by a causeway, Galveston is as easy to get to as an island can be. Some of the ways to travel to, from, or on the island include Uber or Lyft, shuttle, limousine, rental car, or personal vehicle.

Air travel

The closest international airport to Galveston is William P Hobby Airport (HOU). Located on the southern side of Houston, it’s only about 40 miles – and less than an hour if traffic cooperates – from the terminal to the beach.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is the largest airport in Houston. It’s about 70 miles and 80+ minutes from Galveston.

Don't forget about Scholes International Airport (GLS) right here on Galveston Island! As a general aviation reliever airport, GLS serves as a valuable asset in meeting the needs of businesses, private pilots, and aviation enthusiasts. Great attractions such as Moody Gardens Theme Park, Schlitterbahn Water Park, and Moody Gardens Golf Course are all located within the airport complex, few steps away from the ramp, making Scholes Airport your one-stop Galveston Island adventure.

Ground travel

Limo or luxury car: Rates vary from around $150 each way for a luxury car from Houston Hobby up to $400 each way for a stretch limo from Bush International.  Galveston Limousine Service Inc | (409) 744-5466

Super Shuttle: Round-trip rates range from around $40 to $100 per person.  Advance reservations are mandatory. | (800) 258-3826

Uber and Lyft: Rates range from about $100+ round trip per car from Houston Hobby to $165+ round trip from Bush Intercontinental. Fares increase during busy times.

Getting Around Downtown Galveston

The Galveston Trolley | (409) 765-3500

The trolley is $1 for adults, while minors who are accompanied by adults can ride for free. Riders will need to bring exact change to place in the fare box; drivers do not have the ability to make change for riders. A transfer between the Downtown and the Seawall Loop is included in the price.

Seawall Loop – The trolley travels between Stewart Beach and Moody Gardens along the Seawall. East and Westbound stops are available along the way. A transfer to the Downtown Loop is available at 21st St. & Seawall Blvd.

Downtown Loop – The trolley travels between The Strand and the Seawall. North & South Bound stops are available on 25th St., Post Office Street, 20th St., and The Strand. A transfer to the Seawall Loop is available at 21st St. and Seawall Blvd.

Located in the heart of Galveston's historic downtown, Zipp E-Bikes is only one block from the Strand and a short walk from the Galveston Cruise Ship terminal and is located in the perfect location to begin and end an e-bike adventure.

A two-hour rental is a great way to get around if you don't have much time. If you have more time, a half-day or full-day rental is the most popular choice for exploring the entire island.

If you're not familiar with the island, a guided tour of the coolest spots is a great option on an electric bike. There is no better way to see the island. Your guide will take you on an adventure that highlights everything the island has to offer. History, wildlife, beaches, historic districts and more.

Rental Cars

Several car rental companies, including Avis, Budget and Hertz, have deals for ASCE members.

Parking

If you don't mind walking a few blocks, you can find free parking on much of the island.  However, there are some places you need to pay for parking and some that require permits.

Paid parking is required along The Seawall from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM and in Historic Downtown from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

The best way to pay for parking along The Seawall and the Historic Downtown District is through PayByPhone | (866) 234-7275.  There is also a PayByPhone mobile app.  The PayByPhone uses your license plate number, so you can park anywhere on the island.
